Big news! Our new website on organizer staffing and development is now live
Grassroots Solutions is excited to announce the launch of our new website: Built to Last: Developing and Sustaining Organizers! This platform brings together findings, resources, and insights from two major projects on community organizing, led by our very own Katie Fox.
At a time of significant challenges for the organizing field, where turnover is high and investment is low, Built to Last offers practical solutions, real-world examples, and promising practices that can help strengthen organizer development and staffing. It serves as a central hub for resources, examples, and actionable strategies to help organizations build resilient teams and sustain their work.
The website features two projects:
- Through the Organizer Learning Project, we explore the intensive process that organizers go through to learn about the community and context in which they organize and about who they are in the work.Our team engaged with more than 75 organizers from diverse geographic areas, organizing traditions, roles, and identities. Their stories reveal not only what and how they learn, but how their growth evolves throughout their careers, shaped by relationships and experiences that sustain them in the field.
- The Organizer Staffing Stories of Practice Project addresses critical gaps by providing vivid and affirming stories of organizations that have invested deeply in recruiting, developing, and retaining their organizing staff. These examples offer practical insights for building strong, sustainable teams.
This website was designed to bring these projects together as grounding insights and inspiration. We hope that this sparks conversations among organizers, networks, trainers, funders, researchers, and evaluators about how to improve and promote organizer learning and growth.
